Who Are We
Savio House is a Catholic Retreat Centre which is situated right in the centre of Kerridge Ridge & Ingersley Vale in Cheshire.
We offer retreats to groups and individuals of all ages.
For over a hundred years, the Hall was home to a family of wealthy land owners known as the Gaskells. Several generations of the family developed different stages of the property to include several barns, a generous coach house, a Ball room and a spacious home for both themselves and their staff. Several years later, the house passed into the hands of a devout catholic who upon his death left the hall, which had fallen into a state of disrepair, to the Salesians of Don Bosco.
The Salesians of Don Bosco
The Salesians of Don Bosco, are a catholic order of brothers and priests who follow the example of work of St John Bosco who lived in Turin, Italy around 150 years ago. At the time, young people there were being sent to the city to work and live in terrible conditions in order to provide for their families. Don Bosco, a priest of significant status, seeing this injustice began an oratory which provided them with a home, an education, a place to relax and somewhere to worship and develop their understanding of God. Now the works of the Salesians (SDB's) can be seen worldwide, where priests, brothers and lay people work to provide the young with an understanding of each of these areas through retreat and youth work, chaplaincy and other projects.
Becoming Savio House
The Salesians developed the Hall into a retreat and activities Centre for both young people and adults to be able to come and enjoy some time of reflection away from the busyness of life in modern society, and to explore deeper the meaning of faith within their lives. With the facilities to offer both residential and day retreats to its guests, Savio House features a self-catering Barn available for private hire, whether for a residential or single day experience as well as the Coach House and Mews which offers a fully catered experience for its gusts. Development of the Centre continues today as we strive to look forward to the future of Savio House and explore its further potential.
Our Mission Statement
The Savio House community celebrates God's presence in all people - particularly the young.
Enlivened by the spirit and vision of Don Bosco, we invite all to share in our experience of Christian living in the salesian tradition.
Our aim is to journey alongside others towards a deeper awareness of God's love.
